The John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund





Supporting the goals and dreams of amateur athletes

Campaign Goal – $1,000,000


History

Lindsay Park Sports Society (LPSS) received $250,000 from the 1983 Western Canada Summer Games to be used for the benefit of LPSS and Talisman Centre.

The Legacy Fund was established to provide bursaries to amateur athletes, support sport competitions and provide specialized training equipment at Talisman Centre.

In 2012 LPSS renamed the fund in honour of John Currie, President of the 1983 Western Canada Summer Games and launched a fundraising campaign to increase the value of the Legacy Fund to $1 million.  

Fundraising Campaign Objectives

  • Honour an important champion of amateur sport and community builder central to the creation of Talisman Centre.
  • Increase the value of The John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund to $1 million. 

How Can You Contribute?

Your donation to The John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund will honour an important champion of amateur sport and provide bursary awards for amateur athletes with financial need training in Calgary.

Congrats to Jonathan Brown of NCSA

CONGRATULATIONS to NCSA's Jonathan Brown who was selected to represent Canada at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Honolulu August 23-27.

The competition will feature the best 18+ under swimmer from all the Pacific rim countries. Jonathan was the fastest 18 under swimmer in the 200 IM at the Senior Nationals in Edmonton last week and was the only male swimmer from Alberta to make the Canadian team.

The Killarney Swim Club Coaching Announcement

The Killarney Swim Club is thrilled to announce the addition of Brad Mori to their coaching staff for the 2012-13 season. Brad will begin his role as the Assistant Head Coach on September 1, 2012.

Brad Mori is currently the Director of Swimming/Head Coach of the Lethbridge Pronghorns and the LA Swim Club. He is also an Alberta Provincial stroke Coach. Brad has been the Head Coach in Lethbridge for the past 7 years and has had success coaching athletes on the Provincial, National and International stages.

Calgary Masters Swim Club in Italy



CONGRATULATIONS to two Calgary Masters Swim Club Members who just returned from competing in the Fina Masters World Championships in Riccione Italy!

Jeanne and Glenn Carlsen BOTH won the Gold medal in the 3km open water swim.

Jeanne won 2 other Gold medals in the 400 free and the 800 free, breaking her own AB record in that event.

Glenn obtained new Canadian Records in the 800m free, 400m free and 200m fly and new AB records in the 200m and 400m IM.

Congratulations to Cascade Swimming's Dave Johnson, Director of Swimming and Head Coach, who will be inducted into the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, June 19 for his commitment of developing swimming.

LPSS Grants and Bursaries Award Recipients




Lindsay Park Sports Society and Talisman Centre are proud to announce the recipients of the 2012 Grants and Bursaries Awards. $14,000 is being awarded to amateur athletes and Sport Partners.

The LPSS Grants and Bursaries Program is funded by the 1983 Western Canada Summer Games legacy fund. Bursaries are awarded to amateur athletes training with Sport Partners at Talisman Centre to support their training and competition expenses in pursuit of their athletic goals. 

Grants are awarded to Sport Partners to support events hosted at Talisman Centre.

Canadian Age Group Championships



7 WEEKS TO GO! Talisman Centre is proud to be selected as the host facility for the Canadian Age Group Championships!

The 2012 Canadian Age Group Championships is designed to give swimmers ages 12 through 18 the opportunity to race against the best athletes in their age group in Canada. The long course meet is held every summer in various cities across Canada. This is the second time Talisman Centre has been host facility.

This is the BIGGEST event Talisman Centre will host this year with an estimated 1400 athletes participating in all swim disciplines including butterfly, breaststroke, freestyle, back stroke, relays and 5km and 7.5km open water swims (held at Arbour Lake).

The roar of excitement with our members and employees is building as we gear up to host thousands of athletes, officials, coaches and volunteers!
